In an exclusive interview with The5%ers, trader Griff opened up about his trading journey, mindset, and the disciplined strategy that has made him a consistently profitable trader over the past four years.
Like many, Griff started his trading career during the COVID-19 lockdowns. But unlike most, he dedicated an entire year to backtesting a single price action strategy—an effort that laid the foundation for long-term success. “I wasn’t going to be a jack-of-all-trades anymore,” Griff said. “This time, I wanted to master one strategy and stick with it.”

That commitment paid off. Since going live in 2021, Griff has not had a single unprofitable trading year. He joined The5%ers in early 2022 and chose to take on the firm’s Bootcamp Challenge, which he passed using ultra-conservative risk management. Starting with a 100K account, he gradually scaled up to $125K, securing over $7,000 in payouts along the way.
“My strategy is based purely on price action and momentum,” Griff explained. “I use the one-hour timeframe exclusively and trade six FX pairs that I’ve studied in depth: AUDJPY, AUDUSD, EURJPY, EURUSD, GBPUSD, and NZDJPY.”
Currently, he’s focused on passing a 250K Bootcamp Challenge and a 100K High Stakes account with The5%ers. He’s also documenting his journey in a YouTube series titled Road to 100K. “The High Stakes challenge fits my trading style better,” he said. “There’s a bit more breathing room compared to the strict 5% drawdown on Bootcamp.”
Griff also shared insights into his setups, emphasizing structure, retests, and momentum shifts over indicators. He learned the core of his approach from the now-closed Guerilla Trading community, which helped him build the discipline to wait patiently for high-probability setups.
Reflecting on his path, Griff advises aspiring traders to slow down and go deep with one method. “Accept that losses and mistakes are part of the process. If you overprepare and stay consistent, the results will come.”
